Creosite Sweeping Logs
Always Affordable Chimney provides residents from across New York and Long Island with outstanding chimney cleaning services. Creosote sweeping logs are one way to heat your home, but since they are different than regular wood, it is important to understand how they may affect your fireplace.
Can Creosote Sweeping Logs Damage Your Chimney?
This is a very good question and one that has an important answer. To answer this question, first you must understand what happens when you burn logs in your fireplace, and the attributes of the types of logs you burn.
Natural wood logs burn the most cleanly in your fireplace but since the deposits come from smoke and ash, they leave creosote deposits. Manufactured logs, that have a longer burning time and that are easily lit, also contain a waxy substance that significantly contributes to the buildup up of creosote deposits due to their high combustion rate which incompletely combusts the fuel itself. It is recommended that these products are not the sole source of fuel for your fireplace.
Creosote Sweeping Log Features
Creosote Sweeping Logs contain several chemicals that react with the creosote as the smoke goes through the flue and up your chimney. This reaction causes the creosote to flake away from the walls of the flue and chimney and fall into your firebox. Keep in mind that as the creosote falls into your firebox, it can cause flare-ups of your fire. Though the cleaning is a good thing, these logs don’t remove all of the creosote and it can still build up to dangerous levels. In addition, if your chimney is not on a straight vertical line from your fireplace, the creosote that falls back will land on your chimney’s horizontal surfaces where it can build up.
Creosote Sweeping Logs can cause damage to your chimney if you rely solely on the logs to handle the cleaning process. Though certified by the Chimney Safety Institute of America, that certification includes the message that they are not to replace annual inspections and regular professional cleaning. The log can’t tell you if your mortar joints are crumbling or your flue liner is cracked. Only a professional can tell you that. If you would like to learn more about these logs, please contact us today. We can answer any questions you may have about them as well as any other questions about our chimney services in general.

What Our Clients Are Saying!
You have very professional and polite service men! They gave me some helpful tips about how to use my fireplace and really educated me about the chimney cleaning process.
Thanks for completing the job. By the way, I've already been referring you to friends. Your service techs were the most professional vendors I've had at my house in so long. It was a pleasure doing business with you. The stainless steel liner you installed was so inexpensive compared to the other two estimates I had. Thank you for your honesty.
I would highly recommend Always Affordable Chimney. They were very honest and cooperative. I am going through a divorce and had to wait months for my ex’s contribution and Tommy was more than patient and understanding. The work was done efficiently, neatly and to the highest level of quality. I would recommend them to anyone without hesitation.
These guys are great. The owner knows what it takes to get a job done. I had numerous issues and he found solutions, stuck with them and made it happen all while checking in on any of my concerns. I rarely come across anyone I would recommend to friends – I would sing this company's praises. From Tom and his intelligent crew to his wonderful office coordinator Justine (very professional and friendly), they came prepared, were considerate of my property, and did a fantastic job. They seem to love their work, go figure. Top of the line!
Thank you Tom for your exceptional job & advice at my Bay Shore home. I would have wasted a lot of money, time, & material if I listened to previous chimney companies. You're an angel!
